My mom is the best person I know. I know everyone says that about his or her mom but my mom has your mom beat. I can say that because this is my blog! Anyways, She’s the most loving, caring and the smartest woman I know and here are a few of the MANY things she has taught me.
1. She is ALWAYS right!
No question about this one. If you haven't figured this one out yet, you will. There have been many times where she has told me something and at that time I didn't or didn't want to believe that she was right. In the end no matter what she is right. Always listen to your mom kids.
2. It's okay not to be okay.
I've only seen my mom break down a handful of times and I can promise you it's something that will break your heart. Growing up I always thought that nothing ever went wrong in her world but little did I know my mom despite my belief she does not live in a perfect world. She has taught me that it is okay to not be okay and that life will move on and you will be okay eventually.
3. It's not always worth having the last word.
God bless my mom. I am a carbon copy of my father. I'm stubborn, always have to have the last word and I'm negative. My mom has shown me that sometimes it's really not worth getting that last word in. Sometimes you just have to let things go to move on. God knows that my father will not be the one to move on and let things go. (Therefore, I don’t either)
4. In the end being the bigger person has its perks.
This goes hand in hand with the last post. My mom always seems to mask the bigger person face. No matter if it’s dealing with family, work or strangers she’s always comes out the bigger person. I admire that about her.
5. Take time to smell the roses, play with babies, etc.
She has shown me that it's really the little things that make life good. Ask anyone in my family she's the favorite aunt. (Sorry family) Everyone loves Aunt Bre! That's all because she takes the time to play with the little ones and spend time with them. Not saying that the rest of my family doesn't but she takes more time to really love them one on one.
6. Don't worry about what people think/say about you.
This has been something that I have struggled with. I think every kid does. It's hard to not worry about what other people will say about you or think about you. Growing up it was the cool thing to have that little mouse (or whatever it was) on your shirt. Name brands were big growing up (as they still are) and I always wanted them but lets be honest they weren't that cute and they were HELLA EXPENSIVE! So despite my many tantrums wanting the name brand my mom told me it doesn't matter where it comes from and what brand it is. This is one of the best things I've ever learned from that woman. She honestly doesn't care what people say about her. She loves her life and the people in it and that’s all that matters.
7. Sometimes you have to do things you don't want to for the ones you love.
My mom is a strong person and I've seen that throughout my 21 years of life. This might sound silly but I can't remember the last time she actually watched something on TV that she wanted. My dad controls the TV and she doesn't mind it. Okay, most people are thinking Meagan why is that such a big deal? No, my dad watches things like the knife channel and Sci-Fi. He watches the movies on Netflix that have a 2.0 rating. That man is something else. Does she ever complain about it? No. She lets him watch all those silly shows because he likes it and she loves him. It's something that I really need to work on but she has showed me that it's okay to not win every battle and that you have to do things for the ones you love.
8. Your family is what’s important.
Throughout this whole post I'm sure you can tell we're a very family oriented family. I grew up spending vacations with my extended family and I wouldn't have it any other way. I seriously love the people in my family. My mom has taught me that in the end your family is going to be there and that’s all that matters.
9. Always say, "I love you".
My mom always says I love you at the end of every phone conversation or whenever we leave each other. Even if I had just talked to her 5 minutes ago or 5 days ago. She always tells me she loves me and I love that about my mom. I grew up in a very loving environment. My parents couldn't get pregnant for the longest time and they had finally given up when my mom got pregnant with me. So to say I was a miracle baby! (You’re welcome world) She has taught me to make sure you always tell the people you love them because you never know when the next time you get to talk to them.
10. Stand up for what you believe in.
This is an extremely important one. No matter what opinion I had or how I felt about something she has always taught me to stand up for myself and not back down just because I believe something different. This ties into being a bigger person, not having the last word and also not caring what others think. It takes all of these to make this one work. Sometimes you just can't argue with a brick wall and that’s when you realize it's not worth it anymore and to move on.
I have the greatest mom out there and this is just one page of the 1000 page book about the things I learned from her. The best thing about my mom is that she loves me and she always encourages me to follow my dreams and be the best me I can be.
Love you Mom.
xoxo Meg
